Wildflower Project 2019
The Wildflower artwork is an artistic response to the native flora of Geraldton and a repetition of the Geraldton Wax motif. The artwork juxtaposes the hot pink of Geraldton Wax against a dark seaweed green. The hot pink will catch the eye, while the dark green will absorb light and allow the pattern to be integrated into the road base or ground plane. The light yellow and neutral grey break up the intensity of the pattern. This break up of colour makes the artwork highly versatile as it is applied to a variety of surfaces and materials within the project. The colours may be applied in a myriad of ways within the Rock’s interior to the walls, floors or highlight roof trusses and may feed into lighting design. The Wildflower Project was completed in collaboration with UDLA @udlastudio, the City of Greater Geraldton @cityofgreatergeraldton and TRCB Architects @trcb_architects.
The artist acknowledges the traditional owners of the land on which the artwork is situated, the Southern Yamatji people.
