One Plus One Equals One Five Walls Gallery Melbourne Victoria August 2021
Each work in this series are diptychs. They are comprised of equally sized non identical parts that sit together to present a singular form. Each work is monochromatic in colour, using my characteristic colour palette of orange, yellow, green, dark and light blue. The spaces between the parts varies, exploring subtely different chromatic and spatial dynamics. The paint is applied alla prima, allowing traces of brushwork to be visible, maintaining a sense of spontaneity in each work. These works can be viewed as both painting and sculpture, materialising different concrete relationships between each component. Mirroring shapes sit side by side in some works while others interlock and couple. The larger scale black work is comprised of two equivalent sized panels which curve in opposite directions, with the sides painted in yellow or blue suggesting a horizontal in indefinite space.
